Half-Venom

The pounding bass found in the nightclubs dotted around town always tended to make Kane feel nauseous. He almost wished he could simply walk on stage and turn down the volume, but the large men in suits standing in the shadows made him feel slightly more nauseous.

It was a Saturday night. He figured there was no better time to come people-watching; while everyone was here, dancing, laughing, drinking. The cocktail lightly perched in his right hand made it a bit more bearable, and certainly more entertaining.

Even though it was only 10pm, he’d still had a considerable number of girls come up to him and ask for a dance. Of course, he’d declined each one, despite how they leaned forward, exposing their breasts, whilst beckoning to him with their drunken finger-waggling. As much as he’d like to give them false hope by flirting with them for half an hour and then leaving, he thought tonight was a much more interesting night to be people-watching.

Kane wasn’t sure if it was his low-level Autism that made him like toying with people, or just some sadistic love of making a mockery of this current generation, but he was pleased that he was able to use his surprisingly rugged good looks to do so.

As he looked out across the crowd, his eye happened to spot a rather attractive girl dancing out in the middle of the room. She was unlike any girl he had seen in this part of town. Her auburn hair was short on the top, but had a long fringe that covered a pair a thin-rimmed glasses. Her clothing somehow managed to look both elegant and casual at the same time. But most strikingly of all, underneath her glasses her eyes flashed a brilliant yellow, something the average person would have subconsciously thought of as reflections of the laser lights. But Kane wasn’t an average person.

As he finished his drink, Kane noticed that the girl was moving towards the exit. At 10 o’clock at night? He had to follow her; if not just to see where she was leaving to so early, then to make sure nothing happened to her on the walk home. Kane always felt better when his actions were justified, however absurdly.

Street lights dimly illuminated his walk, his each step thoughtful and silent as he followed some fifty meters behind the girl. The moon was gone from the sky, and stalking her was easy work. As she turned a corner, Kane thought to pop up his collar so that strangers would have less chance of seeing his face. After all, if you’re going to be suspicious, you might as well try to be as anonymous as possible. In the end in didn’t really matter though, because when he turned the corner he felt a sharp impact on his face followed by what he assumed was the contact of his head with the ground.

Coming to, Kane tried to make observations about his very disorientated and blurry world. There were a few things that he managed to pick up. The girl he was stalking was standing in front of him, the side of his head was bleeding, his nose felt broken, he was sitting against a pole with his legs out in front of him, and he was handcuffed to the pole. It was now that he was glad he had run through what he was going to say in this situation.

“I’m sorry I was stalking you. I wasn’t going to take sexual advantage of you or anything of that nature. I was simply curious as to why you left the nightclub so early, and felt inclined to find out what you thought would be so much more entertaining.”

Kane realised he’d been leaning forward whilst saying that, so he leaned back against the pole to take a breath. The girl looked at his quizzically.

“What’s your name?” she asked him, putting thought into each word.

“Kane Dowret,” he replied. “Glad to make your acquaintance.” The girl eyed him up.

“Looks like we need to get you cleaned up,” she stated. Leaning over, she unlocked the handcuffs behind him. He stood up, and noticed she was already walking off. “Hurry up,” she called back to him.

At her apartment, the girl got out some medical supplies and managed to quickly patch Kane up. He was slightly flustered with her efficiency. She’d only just finished putting the last bandage on, and he already found himself with a drink in his hand sitting opposite her. He took a few sips. ‘Lemony’ was all his brain could handle at the moment.

The girl was looking at him, her sharp yellow eyes not even blinking. He found it rather disconcerting.

“How did you come up with ‘Kane Dowret?’” she asked him.

“Excuse me?”

“Well, it just seems a rather odd name to choose. I would have picked something a bit more normal.” She paused, leaning in to give him what he could only describe as a malicious stare. “Here I was thinking Dave Spencer was behind bars for raping my sister, and yet here he is sitting in my apartment. I don’t know how you managed to escape, but as I said even before you were incarcerated, jail is too good for you. I want to see you burn.”

This was quite a lot for Kane to handle in only three sentences. He decided the first thing he was going to say was that he wasn’t Dave Spencer. He was his twin brother. The second thing he was going to say was not to do something irrational. And the third thing he was going to say was that she was extraordinarily pretty. He didn’t know why he wanted to say the third one, but he felt that there was no better time to say it.

But in the end in didn’t really matter though, because already he felt his vision starting to fail. The walls moved, and the poisonous drink he held in his hand shattered to the floor. The final thought that wavered through his dying brain was that he wished he’d been a better sibling.

Simple

They laughed the night away
Silly puns and nice soft words
They lay complete all day
Just listening to the birds

He didn’t over-think
His feelings and desires
Sipping his apple drink
No longer plagued by fires.

Rage

mentalplayground:

Inside of me’s a ball of rage
All it wants is to get out.
But I must keep it in its cage
I don’t want to shout.

It ties knots with my insides,
I close my eyes and clench my teeth.
No matter how hard it tries,
I’ll keep it locked beneath.

Focus

Nightfall brings new hell
With sparkling lights and champagne
Memoirs in a shell
Of departing in the rain

Softly said and played
A chord to end this sweet sublime
Farewell, my dear maid
There never was enough time.

"

Last night I had a dream about you
In this dream I’m dancing right beside you
And it looked like everyone was having fun
The kind of feeling I’ve waited so long

Don’t stop, come a little closer
As we jam the rhythm gets stronger
There’s nothing wrong with just a little little fun
We were dancing all night long

The time is right to put my arms around you
You’re feeling right, you wrap your arms around too
But suddenly I feel the shining sun
Before I knew it this dream was all gone

Ooh, I don’t know what to do
About this dream and you
I wish this dream comes true.

Daft Punk - Digital Love

sublimerocketship asked: I really liked Diving Deep, it was very nicely written :)

Thank you! I always appreciate feedback. ;D

Diving Deep

Drowning and gaping
Faceless unknown
Falling and tumbling
Broken, alone

Going the distance
Loving too much
Sick of confusion
You miss their touch

Violent delights
Violent ends
A resentful fall
Kills even friends.

Let Dreams Be Dreams

The lady in the mirror
A shadow in a dream
In there I draw her nearer
In life she’s far downstream

Wish for time, I’ve yet to find
Somewhere to place my hat
Come and go, I’ve yet to know
If this will best all of that.

Moonshine and Cigarettes

Porches and ashtrays
Blowing air into the wind
Secrets that he says
Of in the past, where he sinned

Shops and lights fly by
And I think of future days
God it’s good to live
These mutinous teenage ways

Heal The Cuts

Risking a life
Finding a love
Doctor of hearts
Fits like a glove

Seal the wounds
There’s more to come
Deeper they sink
Shared not by one

Nor two, nor three
Nor even ten
We all feel it
Time and again

Some get it worse
Am I that some?
Or will I find
A cure to numb.

Re-appropriating

Psychological charming mystery
Familial air of grace
Sapio prefixes a history
Of love that has been misplaced

Fresh like the ocean, nostalgic somehow
Vestige of past and present
Yet maybe a better future right now
Is one I should not relent.

Eagle

Hidden in a bunker deep
Forty-eight hours without sleep
Bombs were dropping all around
Soldiers falling to the ground

A once-great lieutenant grips his gun
Hiding in shadows away from the sun
Tears down his face as he’s filled with dread
When he realises his entire platoon is dead

He hears the enemy approaching near
But there’s only one thing that he fears
He wants to see his wife once more
And his baby girl who is only four

He feels a sharp impact from behind
The beautiful memories fall from his mind
“Nazi scum,” the American cried
His life was ended, and his freedom, denied.

Warming

Catapult to the heavens
Well-wisher of an angel
Flying to her rightful place
Long since said farewell.

Back here I stand on Earth, but
It ain’t such a bad place to dwell
Waiting to fly, with my eyes on the sky
You haven’t put me through hell.
